About the author

Sage LaCroix began exploring the natural world when she was a child, and has never stopped.  Her favorite childhood memories are of running through the woods and sitting by her favorite stream.  Sage loved field trips with Nancy Klattenburg, the school district’s naturalist, and took as many science classes as she could when she was in high school.  She majored in Natural Resources and Applied Ecology at Rutgers University, where she also participated in the Cook College Honors Program.  For three years, Sage wrote for the Green Print newspaper, editing the Eco-Scope section in her final year.  She worked on the Student Organic Farm and was president of the Student Organic Farming club in her senior year.  After graduation, Sage worked as an intern at Heron Pond Organic Farm in New Hampshire and then as an Environmental Educator for the New Jersey Forest Service.  In 2005, Sage completed her Master’s Degree in Botany and Plant Pathology at Oregon State University, where she was a National Science Foundation Research Fellow and president of the Graduate Student Association during her last year.  Sage LaCroix currently teaches Biology at Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, MA.
